Everyone has experienced a similar dilemma whilst decorating their small room, you need more storage and some furnishings to complete the look however the space reduces significantly leaving you with little space to move. Nightmare! If you are considering redesigning your current space or you have many ideas that are not practical then this article is for you. We will explore our Buckingham Road project, as well as a 22 meter square Taiwan Apartment, to reveal the techniques they used within their design to show how to maximise space, and make small spaces practical and stylish.
This area has floor to ceiling storage, a compact kitchen, dining area, a bed and bathroom as well as space to exercise are all the essentials for a comfortable home. In areas where property prices are higher than average first time home buyers are being forced to invest in smaller spaces meaning a creativity approach to storage is fundamental.
Generally, the upstairs the space can be limited as it cannot accommodate standing, so it is generally used as place to sleep. This level benefits from a desk area which can be used by a person sitting down and a bookshelf is in arms reach. Although this apartment is small in size it feels bright and spacious due to the white and beige colour palette accompanied by natural wood textures.

In one of our kitchen renovations we created a chilled out vibe with built in storage underneath and a movable dining area for flexible use. The built in storage provides sufficient space for the owner to hang their clothing with open storage extending onto the mezzanine level for books and magazines and well as other small ornaments as desired. We ensured the storage above could be accessed both from the sliding ladder as well as form the mezzanine level.
